Produced to represent the iconic Gulf Porsche 917K used as a test car for Le Mans in 1970 before becoming the star car in Steve McQueen’s legendary 1971 racing film “Le Mans”.
This Alastair Gibson sculpture is a smaller version of the original ‘carbon dory’ sculpture which was produced from a commission by the Drang Gallery in Padstow, Cornwall, the UK home of the John Dory fish. It moves away from the usual fast streamlined fish that I sculpt and shows the stylish details of this ancient oceanic creature.
Selected parts and materials used in this Carbon Art 45 sculpture are from modern Grand Prix cars as listed below.

Body: Carbon fibre, 2 ply/layers 2 x 2 twill 200 gsm with UV resistant clear gloss coating.
Dorsal and underside fins: Silver coated 0.5 mm photo etched stainless steel.
Tail and Pectoral fins: Silver coated 0.5 mm photo etched stainless steel.
Marking detail: Silver standard Dory details with custom designed Gulf Porsche 917K vinyl transfer.
Mounting base and rod: Mounted on a black coated wooden base with Firestone tyre ID logo and a gear from a modern Formula One GP car.
Mounting methods: Desk mounted.
