The motivation behind this sculpture was my passion for F1 and the chance it has given me to show and use the engineering skills, processes and procedures I acquired during my 14 years as an F1 mechanic. This sculpture is how I see a scalloped hammerhead shark swimming in the oceans of the world.
Laminated in nine moulds.
Carbon fibre, titanium, aluminium, inconel, ABS and selected F1 Grand Prix parts.
Limited to 12 pieces.
Body: Carbon Fibre 1 ply of 2 x 2 twill 200 gsm and 2 plies of 2 x 2 twill 400 gsm giving a total thickness of 1.3 mm.
Fins: Fixing detail for pectoral fins are front upper wishbone outer joint bearing housings Sahara Force India F1 Team part number 11 J06 0077 from 2013 F1 GP car. Dorsal fin fixings are front lower wishbone outer joint bearing housing Sahara Force India F1 Team part number 11 J04 0076 from 2013 F1 GP car.
Body top side detailing: Turning veins, pitot tube and exhaust shroud CAD designed 3D printed ABS with coating.
Nostrils: –4, 45° swept titanium hydraulic fitting.
Teeth: CAD designed 0.5 mm photo etched stainless steel.
Eyes: Machined laser etched HE30 aluminium.
Body underside detail: Vent fin detail, Sahara Force India F1 Team part number 11 J010 7736 P4 front wing used during the 2013 F1 GP car.
Vent: –4, 90° machined titanium hydraulic fitting.
Exhausts: Tail pipe part number Honda Racing F1 Team part number 1080 E04 0084/1 L 1296 used during the 2007 F1 season.
Tail: 2 mm HE30 water jet cut aluminium with carbon fibre ‘muscle’ detail, made from 1 ply 2 x 2 twill 200 gsm, 2 plies 2 x 2 twill 400 gsm, giving a thickness of 1.3 mm.
Mounting: Stainless steel rod with front pushrod end, Honda Racing F1 Team part number 1081 C01 0069 L13. Mounted on section of Sahara Force India F1 Team FIA legality underfloor plank.
Mounting methods: Suspended with 1 mm stainless steel braided cable or floor mounted.
Dimensions: L2200mm W900mm H900mm not on base.
